The Troubadour Poetry Prize

 

Outside the window the wild world still calls has been chosen as a finalist in the Troubadour International Poetry Prize 2013 in London by the judges George Szirtes and Deryn Rees-Jones.

 

The annual Troubadour Poetry Prize is administered by Coffee-House Poetry, and this year received over 3,300 entries from around the world.

 

The prize-giving ceremony took place at The Troubadour in London, where the winning poets read alongside George Szirtes and Deryn Rees-Jones.

Aesthetica Magazine

 

Wake Moon has been chosen as a finalist in the Aesthetica Creative Writing Prize 2013.

 

Aesthetica is one of the UK’s foremost arts and culture magazines. Founded in 2002 by Cherie Frederico and Dale Donley, Aesthetica Magazine covers literature, visual arts, music, film and theatre.

 

The finalists will appear in Aesthetica Magazine’s Creative Writing Annual to be launched in December.

Grist Publishing

 

Awarded the Grist Chapbook Prize in the UK for the short fiction collection Cowboy Genes.

 

The prize is offered by Grist Publishing at The University of Huddersfield. Three winning chapbooks were selected for publication by the editorial team chaired by Michael Stewart (King Crow, 2011).

 

The books will be launched at The Huddersfield Literature Festival in March 2014.

Sleepers Publishing

 

Montauk has been accepted for publication in The Sleepers Almanac No.9, edited by Zoe Dattner and Louise Swinn.

 

‘Sleepers Publishing has been releasing its annual collection of short fiction since 2005, and has long been considered one of the best anthologies of new writing in Australia.’

 

The Almanac will be published by Sleepers Publishing in the New Year.

The Bridport Prize

 

Two poems shortlisted for The Bridport Poetry Prize, judged by Wendy Cope in the UK.

 

The Bridport Prize was founded by Bridport Arts Centre in 1973. The Bridport Poetry Prize has a first prize of 5000 pounds and is one of the major UK prizes for an individual poem.

 

The Bridport Poetry Prize received over 7,700 poetry entries this year.

Hildegard of Bingen Poetry Anthology

 

Selected to appear in a new anthology of poems dedicated to the 12^th century Benedictine abbess, mystic and philosopher, Hildegard of Bingen.

 

The anthology will be edited by poet and organiser of The Poetry on the Lake Festival, Gabriel Griffin.

 

The anthology will be published in Italy.

Sea Edge has been accepted for publication in Verandah 28, the literary journal from Deakin University in Melbourne.

 

Verandah 28 will be launched as part of the Melbourne Writers and Readers Festival on August 31 at The Cube in Melbourne.

New Zealand Poetry Society

 

Fortune has been commended by Vincent O’Sullivan in The New Zealand Poetry Society’s Annual Poetry Competition.

 

This year’s competition attracted over 700 entries in the Open Category.

 

Fortune will be published in the forthcoming anthology of winning and commended entries selected by Vincent O’ Sullivan, along with a number of poems selected by this year’s editor, Owen Bullock.

 

The anthology will launch in November.

Forest and Egress have been accepted for publication in the 20th Anniversary Edition of 4th Floor, the online journal from the Whitireia New Zealand Writing Programme.

 

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary Edition, the journal has an open submission call for poets and writers from around New Zealand and internationally.

 

The 20th Anniversary Edition will be published in November, edited by poet and playwright Hinemoana Baker.

Poetry on the Lake

 

Highly commended in the Poetry on the Lake 13th International Poetry Prize, selected by the judge Anne-Marie Fyfe.

 

The Poetry on the Lake Festival of readings and workshops takes place each autumn on Isola San Giulio, Italy. The patron of the festival is Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy who describes it as ‘perhaps the smallest but possibly the most perfect poetry festival in the world.’

 

The awards ceremony will take place at the festival in October.

Mirehouse Poetry Prize

 

From the North has been highly commended in the Mirehouse Poetry Prize 2013 by the judge Blake Morrison.

 

The Mirehouse Poetry Prize is given to celebrate Mirehouse’s longstanding literary connections with Wordsworth, Southey, Tennyson, Carlyle and Thackeray. It is run by the Words by the Water Literary Festival.

 

Words by the Water is one of the UK’s leading festivals and takes place in the Lake District at the Theatre by the Lake, Keswick.

 

From the North will be read at a festival event on March 9, where Blake Morrison will introduce the winner and commended poets followed by a reading from his new book of poems on the Pendle witches.

 

The poems will be featured on the Mirehouse Poetry Walk and will appear on the Mirehouse website.

Karangahape Road Sonnet has been accepted for publication in Landfall 225: My Auckland, edited by David Eggleton.

 

Landfall is New Zealand’s foremost and longest running arts and literary journal. Published by Otago University Press, it showcases new fiction, poetry, essays and cultural commentary.

 

Landfall 225 will launch in May.

Established in 1978, the Poetry Society’s National Poetry Competition is one of the world’s biggest and most prestigious poetry contests. Winners have included Carol Ann Duffy, Tony Harrison, Ruth Padel, Philip Gross, Jo Shapcott, Colette Bryce, Julia Copus, Ian Duhig and James Harpur.

The bi-annual anthology is edited by Ginny Bailey and Sally Flint at the University of Exeter.

Three poems commended in The Gregory O’Donoghue Poetry Prize 2013, chosen by the judge Thomas McCarthy.

 

The Gregory O’Donoghue Poetry Prize is one of Ireland’s most prestigious open poetry prizes and attracts thousands of entries from around the world.

 

The prize is administered by the Munster Literature Centre and is named in honour of the late Irish poet, long associated with the Centre.

 

The winner will be invited to read at the Cork Spring Poetry Festival in February.
